Cotai's Flagship Show Is Dark Sept 27–Oct 6, Straight Through Golden Week

Macau 2049, the Zhang Yimou resident production at the MGM Theater in Cotai, has no scheduled performances from September 27 to October 6, 2026 — the exact stretch covering mainland Golden Week and Macau's October 1–2 holidays. Shang Pin Spa sits in the same district, inside Lisboeta Macau, and is open when the theatre is not.

Chan, who drives our pickups, sorts the Cotai year into two sorts of night: the ones where a theatre empties several thousand people onto one forecourt at once, and the ones where it does not. He mentioned last week that between late September and early October there will be a long run of the second kind. He is right, and if your Macau dates land in that window, it is the sort of thing you want to know before you are standing in a lobby wondering what to do with the evening.

What the ticketing programme says

Macau 2049, the Zhang Yimou resident production staged at the MGM Theater inside MGM COTAI, is listed with no performances at all from September 27 through October 6, 2026. That is according to programme P-055264 on the Macau Ticketing Network, as of August 27, 2026, which also shows the run dark on August 31 and September 1, on September 7 and 8, on September 14 and 15, and on September 21 and 22.

The days that do carry a performance, per the same programme: 15:00 curtains on August 27–30, September 2–6, September 13, September 19–20, September 23–26, and again October 7–10; 19:30 curtains on September 9–12 and September 16–18. Tickets are listed at MOP 288–888 as of August 27, 2026. Schedules change, so buy and confirm through the ticketing site rather than through us.

Why those ten days are the awkward ones

The dark stretch sits precisely on top of mainland China’s National Day Golden Week and Macau’s own public holidays on October 1 and 2. We covered the crowd side of that fortnight a couple of weeks ago and will not repeat it here. The new fact is narrower and more useful: during the fullest nights of the Macau year, the district’s best-known evening fixture is not running. A visitor who assumed otherwise arrives with a gap in the middle of the plan, on precisely the nights when everything else is at capacity.

We are a few minutes away, and we do not go dark

Shang Pin Spa is inside Lisboeta Macau, in Cotai — the same district as MGM COTAI, and a short drive from it. The doors are open 24 hours (as of September 2026). Therapists are on duty from 15:00 to 06:00 (as of September 2026). Multinational therapists, a Japanese-style bubble bath the venue is known for, and free dining that runs through the small hours. The floor itself is on the rooms page; the case for choosing us is on the why page; getting here is on the location page.

Booking through this site carries three things: a free private car anywhere in Macau, two complimentary add-on services, and no entrance fee. To be plain about what booking means here — no venue in Macau holds seats in advance. What we do is plan your run for the evening and make sure you are prioritised on arrival.

Chan on moving around Cotai that week

His view is that the bottleneck is never the road. It is the porte-cochère. From early evening until roughly 23:00, hotel-to-hotel transfers across Cotai stack up at the drop-off lanes, and the wait to reach a door outlasts the drive itself. After midnight it thins out, and the same distance takes half the effort. His conclusion for a night with no show in it: do not rush the move. Leave later and you arrive sooner.

Four details are all he asks for in advance — the hotel you are staying at, which lobby exit you will be waiting at, how many of you there are, and the hour you want. With those, he meets you away from the queue instead of joining it.

Filling the evening

A night that was going to be a 15:00 or 19:30 curtain becomes something with more room in it. Have your dinner at the hour you wanted it, let the peak of the street pass, and message us for the car once the crowd has thinned. Bath and bubble bath first, a course after, then a plate from the free dining. When you are finished, the reclining rest lounge is free and open until morning, and private rest rooms are available at a charge — the overnight page covers how that works, which matters more than usual in a week when hotel rates are at their annual peak.

Prices

As of September 2026, most guests here take an Aroma SPA course in the MOP 2,999–4,999 band, plus a 10% service charge. The premium Aroma SPA tier runs MOP 5,599–6,099, and the Twin-Star Aroma SPA at the top of the menu is MOP 6,599, plus the same 10% service charge, also as of September 2026. Pricing follows the venue’s live menu, so read those as guidance: current menu confirmed when you book. The full tier breakdown is on the price page. Cash, card, WeChat Pay and Alipay are all accepted.

FAQ

Has the show been cancelled permanently?

No. Programme P-055264 lists performances resuming on October 7–10 at 15:00, as of August 27, 2026. The gap runs September 27 to October 6. Confirm the current schedule on the ticketing site before you plan around it.

How late can I arrive on October 1 or 2?

The venue is open 24 hours. Therapists are on duty until 06:00, so a late arrival still gets a full course. Tell us the hour and Chan works backwards from it.

Will holiday week change what I pay?

Rates follow the venue’s menu rather than the calendar. We quote the exact figure at the time you book, and nothing is added on the day beyond that quote.

Does the free car reach the Macau peninsula?

Yes — the car covers all of Macau, peninsula hotels included, in both directions. Other questions are answered on the FAQ page.

If your dates fall anywhere between September 27 and October 6, the evening gap is already on your itinerary whether or not you have noticed it. Send us your hotel, your dates and the course you have in mind through the contact page, and we will have that evening arranged before you land.
